Tata Power Renewable Energy Commissions 126 MW Floating Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned one of India’s largest floating solar projects with a capacity of 126 MW at Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh.

The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project, valued at ₹596 crore, is a notable addition to India’s renewable energy landscape. The project, commissioned by TPREL under an EPC contract from NHDC Limited, covers 260 hectares of water in the Khandwa district. It includes 213,460 bifacial glass-to-glass solar modules, generating 204,580 MWh annually and offsetting approximately 173,893 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  • Capacity: 126 MW, among the largest floating solar installations in India.
  • Carbon Offset: Approximately 173,893 tonnes annually.
  • Innovative Technology: Includes the world’s largest Inverter Floating Platform (IFP), robust mooring systems, wave breakers, and ballast anchors to ensure stability against environmental challenges such as fluctuating water levels and high winds.
  • Water Conservation: Expected to save 32.5 million cubic meters of water annually by reducing evaporation.

Mr. Deepesh Nanda, CEO of TPREL, highlighted the project as an example of innovative engineering addressing environmental challenges. “This project is about more than just energy generation; it’s about transforming lives and creating sustainable solutions for India’s future,” he said.

Mr. Rajeev Jain, Managing Director of NHDC Limited, praised the project for its dual benefits of clean energy generation and water conservation, showcasing the potential of floating solar technology in sustainable development.

With the addition of this project, TPREL’s total renewable capacity has reached 10.9 GW, with 5.3 GW operational across solar and wind energy.
