The Ministry of Coal has announced a significant milestone for India’s coal sector, with production and dispatch figures for the calendar year 2024 reaching record highs. This achievement underscores the sector’s commitment to ensuring energy security and aligns with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
In 2024, coal production hit an all-time high of 1,039.59 million tonnes (MT) (provisional), reflecting a robust 7.28% year-on-year growth compared to the 969.07 MT produced in 2023. Similarly, coal dispatches recorded a new peak at 1,012.72 MT (provisional), marking a 6.56% increase from the 950.39 MT dispatched in the previous year.
This exceptional performance is attributed to the Ministry’s strategic initiatives aimed at boosting domestic coal availability to meet growing energy demands. The increased output and streamlined dispatch processes have significantly bolstered national energy security, ensuring the timely availability of coal for power generation and other industrial uses.
The Ministry of Coal’s ongoing efforts to optimize production and enhance infrastructure development also aim to reduce dependence on coal imports, strengthening the country’s self-sufficiency in energy resources. This focus not only supports India’s industrial growth but also contributes to long-term sustainable development.
The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to reinforcing India’s energy sector and sustaining this growth trajectory in the coming years.
