UPSC reschedules Civil Services Prelims 2024 exam due to Lok Sabha elections

The Union Public Service Commission rescheduled the Civil Services Examinations CSE 2024. The Prelims exam was to be held on May 26, 2024; however, it will now be held on June 16, 2024. This is in compliance with the Election Commission of India’s schedule for Lok Sabha elections in April – June 2024.

Furthermore, the UPSC Civil Services mains exams are scheduled to be held from September 20 for five days.

Besides exams rescheduling, the Commission further extended the deadline for registration of Civil Services Examinations CSE 2024. The last date for registration is moved to March 6, till 6 pm. The window for corrections is open from March 7 to March 13.

This year, the Commission announced a total of 1,056 vacancies for CSE and 150 for IFoS . The UPSC CSE exam is conducted in three stages namely the preliminary, mains, and the personality test.

The prelims exam will be of objective type in which candidates scoring more than the cut-off marks become eligible for the UPSC IAS main examination. A candidate who has attained the age of 21 years and must not exceed the age of 35 years on August 1, 2024, as per this CSE notification can apply.

Also – The nomination filing process for the aforementioned 102 parliamentary constituencies has been initiated in 21 states and Union territories. The time frame within which the nomination filing has to be done varies across the constituent represented provinces. Most of the constituent provinces have a deadline of March 27 for the nomination filing.

However, the deadline for submission was March 28 for Bihar because of a festival . There is also a time frame within which the nominations can be withdrawn. The candidates can withdraw the nominations before the given deadlines, March 20 for most states and April 2 for Bihar.

The 2024 Lok Sabha election for 102 parliamentary constituencies will be held in seven phases starting from April 19 and ending on June 1.

The select parliamentary constituencies will vote for each phase from states represented in several polling batches. The results of the election will be announced on June 4.

The first phase includes polling from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
