The Supreme Court of India is expected to give its verdict on the matter of final year examination soon, according to sources. The date is tentative and has not been shred officially. The court did not announce its decision in the hearing held today.

The pleas regarding the UGC guidelines issued on July 6 to conduct final year examination before September 30, amidst the pandemic has been under the consideration of the apex court since last month, the last hearing being held on August 18.

The petition was filed by different groups including 31 students and Maharashtra’s Yuva Sena challenging the UGC guidelines and seeking cancellation or rescheduling of the examinations amidst rising COVID-19 cases in India.

But UGC has said that it has decided to conduct the exam only after recommendations by an expert panel and that it will not change its decision stating the future of students and awarding degrees.

Supreme Court Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, representing the petitioners via twitter said that the final order has not been passed today and the order is likely to come on Wednesday since the bench will not be sitting tomorrow.

The students have been actively protesting, sending emails, and marking their opposition through Twitter storms and other platforms ever since the UGC guidelines were announced. They are unanimous in their demands and are hoping for a favorable verdict from the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, states like Delhi and Maharashtra have canceled all the examinations and have decided to promote the students.
