The Supreme Court today rejected the Review Petition filed by 6 states for postponement of the JEE Main and the NEET exams scheduled to be held this month.
The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will go ahead on the dates alloted as scheduled as a three-judge bench consisting of Justices Ashok Bhushan, BR Gavai and Krishna Murari held the in-chamber hearing at 1:30pm today. The petition was filed by six opposition-ruled states from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Punjab , Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh against the court’s August 17 order allowing the National Test Agency (NTA) to hold NEET and JEE exams.
The ministers claimed in their petition that the Apex court order failed to secure students’ “right to life” under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution and ignored “teething logistical difficulties” to be faced in conducting the exams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
NTA which conducts the entrance exams will be holding JEE Main Exams from September 1 to September 6, while NEET exams is scheduled on September 13.
