Experiential learning — an approach that replaces rote memorisation with hands-on exploration, real-world problem-solving, and multi-sensory learning — is steadily transforming Indian classrooms. Instead of passive instruction, students learn by doing: building, observing, experimenting, collaborating, reflecting. Globally recognised pedagogies like Reggio Emilia, Design Thinking, and inquiry-based frameworks sit at the heart of this movement.

Tapping into this growing shift, Heritage Xperiential Schools, long considered one of India’s strongest champions of experiential education, has launched its first Pune campus: Heritage International Xperiential School (HIXS) in Kalyani Nagar.

Ranked among the country’s top schools offering CBSE and international curricula, Heritage has spent over 22 years building a model where learning is rooted in meaning, purpose and human connection. The new Pune campus aims to deliver the same philosophy — combining global best practices with deeply Indian values.

The launch of HIXS Pune was marked by the Early Years Summit 2025, an event that gathered educators, policymakers and early childhood experts from India and abroad. International thought leaders Jan Dubiel and Sarah Browne led discussions on early years pedagogy, child development, assessment and the role of intentional learning environments — all core elements of experiential education.

Speaking at the event, Edward Lawless, Head of School at HIXS Pune, said:
“At Heritage, education has always been about meaning, purpose, and human connection. With the launch of our Pune campus, we’re extending our legacy of over 20-years of authentic, experiential learning to a new community of learners.”

The Pune school integrates academic excellence with whole-child development, offering hands-on environments such as Makerspaces, Design Thinking studios, visual and performing arts ateliers, a Wellness Centre, multi-sensory classrooms and sports facilities. Admissions for the first year open from Nursery to Grade 3, with expansion planned up to Grade 12.

Designed to encourage children to think independently and link their learning to real-world contexts, HIXS Pune aims to nurture confident, creative and conscious global citizens. The school follows Heritage’s Dharmic principles of Freedom, Respect, Authenticity, Inclusion, Attentiveness and Excellence.

Backed by Lighthouse Learning Group, Heritage now serves over 7,500 students across NCR, and with the Pune launch, strengthens its goal of building future-ready learning communities that are “as Indian as they are international.”
