‘Ban illegal Hookah Bars near campus’: DUSU President Tushar Dedha writes to Delhi LG Vinai Saxena

Tushar Dedha even mentioned the locations where these Hookah Bars are functioning — Hudson Lane, Civil Lines and Vijay Nagar. These areas surround the North Campus of Delhi University. 

On Tuesday, Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) President Tushar Dedha wrote a letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, demanding complete ban on Hookah Bars, which are functioning illegally around colleges of Delhi University. DUSU President alleged in his letter that these Hookah Bars are serving alcohol and hookahs to students illegally, which is hampering students physically, mentally and economically.

In his letter, Tushar Dedha even mentioned the locations where these Hookah Bars are functioning — Hudson Lane, Civil Lines and Vijay Nagar. These areas surround the North Campus of Delhi University.

“Such type of activities isn’t avoidable and this is not only threat to education institute, and youth but to the society also. It is an issue of concern for the students’ health and safety. Therefore, I request you to kindly arrange to ban them immediately,” wrote DUSU President in his letter to Delhi LG.

The newly elected DUSU President Tushar Dedha submitted a memorandum to Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday over five demands of students, including ban on Hookah Bars. The five demands include —

  1. Delhi Metro concession pass for DU students;
  2. Restart of U-Special bus service in Delhi for DU students;
  3. Establishment of DU’s East Campus for students’ ease;
  4. Appointment of teachers on permanent basis in 12 colleges of DU funded by the Delhi government; and
  5. Ban on illegal Hookah Bars near colleges.

DUSU President personally submitted the memorandum mentioning these demands to the Delhi LG on Tuesday. Well, the DUSU elections held after a gap of 4 years in Delhi University in which Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)’s Tushar Dedha won the Presidential post, defeating rival NSUI’s candidate.
