Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash, a student of Mathematics at Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College has won the world record of “World’s Fastest Human Calculator”. The 20-year-old boy from Hyderabad has received this honour after winning the first-ever gold medal for India in the Mental Calculation World Championship at Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO) held in London on August 15.

The MSO was held virtually this year with 30 participants up to 57 years of age from 13 countries including the UK, Germany, UAE, France, Greece, and Lebanon. He topped the competition with a lead of 65 points ahead of a Lebanese contender who bagged the second position.

“I hold 4 world records and 50 Limca records for being the fastest human calculator in the world. My brain calculates quicker than the speed of a calculator. Breaking these records, once held by maestros like Scott Flansburg and Shakuntala Devi, is a matter of national pride. I have done my bit to place India on the global level of Mathematics,” said Bhanu Prakash according to ANI.

He also said that this achievement is equivalent to any other Olympic event in the realm of physical sports and that the judges were spellbound with his speed that additional calculations were made to perform to confirm his accuracy.

The fastest human calculator’s vision is to create “VISION MATH” to increase the mathematical abilities and numeracy of the people of the country which will put India on the global map of excellence and bring back the old Indian Math Glory. He also wishes to reach out to millions of children to make them start loving maths and get rid of the phobia caused by Mathematics.
