The sole survivor of the military helicopter crash, Group Captain Varun singh passed away at IAF command hospital in Benguluru today after battling with his injuries for last couple of days.
Captain Singh was the only person who was rescued alive from the December 8, Mi-17V5 chopper crash in which 13 people including the first CDS of India General Bipin Rawat were killed.
“IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of barave hsart Group Captain Varun singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sutained in the helicoter accident on Dec 8,21”, the tweet by the Air force said.

Singh was awarded with Shaurya Chakra earlier this year for his magnificent bravery and presence of mind while combating a rare mid-air emergency while flying last year.
The nation is grieving on the loss of a brave soul. Several politicians and ministers have extended their condolences to Singh’s family and friends.
