On Wednesday, a fire catastrophe at the Siachen glacier resulted in the death of one officer and three injuries to soldiers. According to Indian Army officials, the injured have been safely transported to a hospital from that location. It happened at roughly 3.30 in the morning.
The disputed territory of Kashmir’s northern area is home to Siachen Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the world with a length of 71 km. More people have been killed by the hostile environment and avalanche-prone regions than by gunshot in the glacier. The army can only station one soldier in Siachen for a duration of three months due to the tough weather. A report claims that over 800 soldiers have died at Siachen over the course of the last 37 years as a result of the tough terrain, extreme weather, and enemy fire.
At Siachen, the Indian Army spends up to 80% of its time preparing personnel for deployment. The names of Indian soldiers who lost their life on the glacier are listed on a military memorial by the banks of the Nubra River.
