Launching on March 5, 2024, the inaugural Naval Commanders’ Conference for 2024 sailed towards a three-day discussion of administrative, operational, and strategic issues related to maritime security. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh presented an illustrious display of the Indian Navy’s “twin-carrier operations” during the first session, which took place at sea.

The display, which included two aircraft carriers, was a potent example of the Indian Navy’s expanding capabilities and dedication to defending India’s maritime interests. The exercise demonstrated the Navy’s preparedness for shifting geopolitical dynamics and unstable maritime security scenarios, underlining the critical role that sea-based air power plays in preserving maritime superiority.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, who was addressing the Naval Commanders during the session, praised the Indian Navy for its growing multifaceted capabilities in the Indian Ocean region and positioned it as a leader. In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), he commended the Navy’s efforts to promote peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

Singh praised the Indian Navy’s anti-piracy efforts in the Indo-Pacific area, highlighting their widespread acknowledgement. He conveyed gratitude for the Navy’s vital role in upholding maritime security, national sovereignty, and international obligations. “The Navy is a reflection of India’s growing stature on the global canvas,” he said, crediting the Navy’s bravery and promptness for India’s improved standing in the Indo-Pacific area.

The significance of collaboration and coordination among the three Services in light of dynamic geopolitical conditions was emphasised by the Raksha Mantri. Additionally, he emphasised the growing use of drones in contemporary combat and other marine operations. Singh urged the Commanders to remain ready for any situation and pledged the Government’s unfailing support.

With a hybrid format this year, the Naval Commanders’ Conference offers a forum for strategic talks against the backdrop of changing geopolitical dynamics and regional issues. In order to ensure that the Indian Navy is ready to handle the current unstable maritime security scenario, the conference is essential in determining the future direction of the fleet.

The Chief of Defence Staff, the Chiefs of the Indian Army and Air Force, and the Naval Commanders will interact in a rare gathering of military officials. They will emphasise the value of cooperation in the shared national security environment as they examine ways to improve tri-service synergy and readiness in national defence.
