Indian security forces on Tuesday thwarted an attempt by the Chinese Army to transgress into Indian areas in the general area of Chumar, a border patrol facility located in Kaala Top area in south-eastern Ladakh. According to sources, China has made three attempts until now to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control(LAC).
Indian foreign ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said China “engaged in provocative military manoeuvres in the late night of 29 and 30 August in an attempt to change the status quo in the South Bank area of Pangong Lake”.
According to India Today TV, Chinese army had set off eight heavy vehicles to the Indian side of LAC, to which the Indian forces retorted by deploying vehicles. The Indian security forces are trying to prevent any kind of intrusion from the Chinese side and are on high alert.
As discussions between the two sides to de-escalate the situation and the meeting by brigade commanders of the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army shows no progress, there is a spike in tension in New Delhi.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava in a statement said, “Yesterday (August 31), even as the ground commanders of the two sides were in discussions to de-escalate the situation, the Chinese troops again engaged in provocative action. Due to the timely defensive action, the Indian side was able to prevent these attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo.”
