SpiceJet has finalized a lease agreement to bring a wide-body Airbus A340 aircraft into its fleet, marking a significant step in the airline’s expansion strategy. The aircraft is expected to arrive in India by the end of September 2025 and will commence operations in the first week of October.
The induction of the A340 will enhance SpiceJet’s capacity to meet rising passenger demand while strengthening its growing domestic and international network. The airline is also in advanced discussions to lease a second A340, underlining its focus on fleet expansion and long-term growth.
Initially, SpiceJet will operate the A340 under a wet lease model, transitioning later to a damp lease arrangement. This approach will provide the airline with operational flexibility and notable cost savings, ensuring an efficient integration into the existing fleet. Subject to regulatory approvals, the A340 is intended as a long-term addition, with plans for operations extending well beyond a year.
This announcement aligns with SpiceJet’s broader fleet expansion plans, which include the induction of 18 Boeing 737 aircraft, including four Boeing 737 MAX jets, set to join the airline starting October 2025. With these additions, SpiceJet aims to enhance passenger comfort, connectivity, and service reliability across its network.
