In a momentous event on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed terminal building at Surat airport in Gujarat. The state-of-the-art integrated terminal is adept at accommodating 1,200 domestic and 600 international passengers during peak hours, with provisions for expanding the peak hour capacity to 3,000 passengers. The official statement highlighted an annual handling capacity increase to 55 lakh passengers.
The design of the terminal reflects the rich local culture and heritage of Surat, serving as the gateway to the city. Both the interior and exterior are carefully crafted to evoke a sense of place, ensuring a cultural ambiance for visitors.
During the inauguration, PM Modi unveiled the commemorative plaque at the terminal and familiarized himself with its facilities. Accompanying him were key dignitaries, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister Darshana Jardosh, Lok Sabha member and Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit chief CR Paatil, and State Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The event marked not only the expansion of Surat airport’s infrastructure but also a celebration of the region’s cultural identity seamlessly integrated into the new terminal.
