Recently when Tata bought back Air India on February 14th, It had decided to fill in the prestigious position of CEO with Ilker Ayci.

Born in Istanbul, Ayci is Turkish and has an impressive academic record and professional acumen. He studied Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University in 1994, later moved on with a research stay at Leeds University in political science, in the UK in 1995, he has a Master’s degree in International Relations at an Instanbul University called Marmara University way back in 1997.

Ayci has a great rapport with Turkish President Erdogan and he has been overseeing the Turkish airlines from 2015 way up till January 2022. According to Bloomberg’s report, the security clearance of the airline’s CEO and MD Ilker Ayci will not be an easy or simple one but would rather be a very complex search.

In a recent story published by PTI, It stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will carry out an explicit thorough background check on Ayci. The MHA said that Ayci will be scrutinized with attention to detail as he is a Turkish national.

Until Ayci agrees to this process which the MHA is yet to receive from Ayci, Tata Group, its agency, or the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the scrutiny will not commence. MHA gave the task to R&AW to fully search the incumbent Ilker Ayci. On March 1st Ilker Ayci denied taking over the position at Air India as stated by Bloomberg reports. Ilker Ayci was to become the CEO of Air India starting 1st March 2022.
