New Delhi, Friday, November 7: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) continue to face delays after a major technical fault hit the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that powers Air Traffic Control (ATC) data.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed through an official post on X (formerly Twitter) that the technical snag is still being rectified, and further delays are expected through the day as controllers continue to process flight plans manually. The AAI assured that technical teams are “working round the clock” to fully restore the automated system.

“Due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System at Delhi ATC, flight plans are being handled manually. Efforts are underway to restore the system at the earliest. Some delays are expected. We regret the inconvenience caused,” AAI tweeted.

Passengers have been advised to check directly with their airlines for updated departure and arrival schedules, as the average delay is expected to range between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the route and time slot.

Earlier in the morning, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) also issued a statement confirming temporary disruptions in air traffic and thanked passengers for their cooperation as restoration efforts continue.

The AMSS glitch — a critical component that automates the exchange of flight plan messages between ATC units — has forced controllers to revert to manual data entry, significantly slowing down the clearance process for flights at one of India’s busiest airports.
