The Division Bench of the Delhi High Court has dismissed the appeal filed by KAL Airways and Kalanithi Maran seeking damages of over ₹1,300 crore from SpiceJet Limited. The court ruling, dated May 23, 2025, marks the latest development in the prolonged legal dispute between the parties.
KAL Airways and Kalanithi Maran had initially raised claims exceeding ₹1,300 crore during arbitration proceedings against SpiceJet. These claims were comprehensively reviewed and subsequently rejected by a three-member Arbitral Tribunal comprising retired Supreme Court judges.
Following the arbitration outcome, KAL Airways and Kalanithi Maran moved to the Single-Judge Bench of the Delhi High Court, challenging the tribunal’s decision. However, the court upheld the arbitral award, rejecting their plea for damages.
Unwilling to concede, the appellants escalated the matter to the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court. In its latest order, the Division Bench reaffirmed the decisions of both the Arbitral Tribunal and the Single-Judge Bench, dismissing the appeal and upholding the findings against KAL Airways and Kalanithi Maran.
This ruling concludes another chapter in the legal proceedings initiated after SpiceJet’s ownership changed hands in 2015.
