The COVID-19 pandemic put the hospitality industry at a complete standstill due to the travel bans and lockdowns in cities worldwide. This led to lakhs of workers in the hospitality sector (which include airlines, hotels, tour groups, etc.) getting laid off or experiencing pay cuts.
As the world adapts to the new normal we see lockdowns relaxing and travel bans we see the industry come back to its former glory.
According to a letter, starting on September 1, Air India would reinstate the payments that were reduced as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
The loss-making airline, which was acquired by Tatas in January of this year, also chose to change the staff meal and layover allowances as of September 1.
In the communication to the employees, Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said the airline “will be restoring the salary reduction for all employees with effect from September 1, 2022”.
While the airline has much to do to return to profitability, “sunsetting most of the COVID measures is an important and welcome milestone”, he said.
Meanwhile, Air India has been aiming to boost connectivity between India’s metro cities
The majority of these flights will operate on routes that pass via major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai, among others.
In addition to adding two new frequencies on the routes from Delhi to Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad as well as from Mumbai to Chennai and Hyderabad, Air India will also add one new frequency on the routes from Mumbai to Bengaluru and Ahmedabad to Pune.
