In an unusual mid-air incident, a passenger on board Air India Express flight IX-1086 from Bengaluru to Varanasi on Monday (September 22) attempted to enter the cockpit while reportedly searching for the lavatory. The matter quickly went viral after reports claimed that eight others were accompanying the passenger and were handed over to the CISF at Varanasi airport.
Responding to the reports, an Air India Express spokesperson clarified that safety was never compromised. “We are aware of media reports regarding an incident on one of our flights to Varanasi, where a passenger approached the cockpit entry area while looking for the lavatory. We reaffirm that robust safety and security protocols are in place and were not compromised. The matter was reported to the relevant authorities on landing and is currently under investigation,” the spokesperson said.
The statement comes amid social media buzz, with clips and posts circulating widely, sparking speculation about a potential security breach. The airline stressed that procedures were followed as per protocol, and the case is now with the concerned authorities.
