Air India and Air Mauritius have expanded their existing codeshare partnership, aiming to enhance connectivity between India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Delhi, with senior representatives from both airlines present.
Under the expanded codeshare arrangement, the two carriers will place their respective flight designator codes on 17 routes, significantly increasing travel options across the Indian Subcontinent and Southern Africa. This includes Air India’s ‘AI’ code on Air Mauritius-operated flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Antananarivo, while Air Mauritius will now place its ‘MK’ code on Air India-operated routes between India and Mauritius.
The new arrangement will enable seamless travel for passengers, allowing single-ticket bookings and baggage check-throughs across both carriers’ networks. This move comes as part of Air India’s ongoing international expansion strategy under its Vihaan.AI transformation plan.
“India is one of the largest tourism and trade partners for Southern Africa. This partnership enables broader access for our customers and aligns with our vision of building a globally connected network,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD, Air India.
Kishore Beegoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius, echoed the sentiment, stating, “Indian travelers can now enjoy easier access not just to Mauritius, but also to nearby destinations like Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar through this codeshare.”
The additional codeshare flights will be available for booking starting July 1, 2025, via the respective airline websites and travel agencies.
