The India-bound Volvo EX30, a small electric SUV, has earned a prestigious 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, scoring over 79% across all tested categories. This recognition underscores Volvo’s commitment to safety in electric vehicles.
In adult occupant protection, the EX30 achieved an 88% score, excelling in crash tests. The SUV demonstrated good to adequate protection for most body regions in frontal and side impacts, though chest protection was weak in the side pole test. Features like a front center airbag and robust whiplash protection added to its strong performance. Impressively, the EX30 allows door and window operation even in submerged conditions.
For child occupant protection, the EX30 scored 85%, providing excellent safety for 6- and 10-year-old passengers in both frontal and side-impact tests. However, it lost points for the absence of a child presence detection system.
The SUV earned 79% in the vulnerable road user protection category. While the EX30’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) performed well, it was marked down for certain pedestrian and cyclist protection systems not being default. The manual activation requirement for its dooring system was another drawback.
Finally, the EX30 secured an 80% score in safety assist, with most electronic safety systems functioning effectively.
Overall, the Volvo EX30’s exceptional safety features and performance in stringent tests make it a standout choice in the small electric SUV segment.
