The Volkswagen Taigun, which debuted in India on September 23, 2021, is three years old today. According to SIAM Wholesales data, as of the end of August 2024, the Taigun had sold 67,140 units in the domestic market and 32,742 units had been shipped to foreign markets. Given that combined domestic and international sales total 99,882 units, the remainder of 118 units for the cumulative 1,00,000 sales milestone would have been reached in the first few days of September 2024.

The Volkswagen Taigun is the company’s first product offering in the midsize SUV class, built on the globally acclaimed MQB A0 IN platform as part of the strategic India 2.0 project, with up to 95 percent localisation at launch.

The Taigun, the sister SUV of the Skoda Kushaq under the India 2.0 project, is part of India’s growing midsize SUV market, which also includes models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and Toyota Hyryder, among others. It is only available with petrol engines: a 115hp 1.0 TSI turbo-petrol engine (115hp and 175 Nm torque) or a 150hp 1.5 TSI (150hp and 250 Nm torque), both with manual and automatic transmissions.

VW’s midsize SUV is now priced between Rs 10.90 lakh and Rs 18.70 lakh, with special deals available for entry-level and top-spec models.
