Tata Motors Limited reported a 9% year-on-year decline in total sales for May 2025, with volumes reaching 70,187 units compared to 76,766 units in May 2024. The company’s domestic sales for the month stood at 67,429 units, down 10% from 75,173 units recorded during the same period last year.
In the commercial vehicle segment, the overall sales, including domestic and international business, amounted to 28,147 units, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 5%. Within the domestic market, commercial vehicle sales dropped by 9% to 25,872 units from 28,476 units in May 2024. Heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) truck sales declined by 10%, while intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILMCV) trucks showed an 11% growth. The passenger carrier category remained flat with negligible change, whereas small commercial vehicles (SCV) and pickups registered a sharp 20% decline.
International business in the commercial vehicle segment grew significantly, with sales increasing by 87% to 2,275 units from 1,215 units in the previous year. Combined domestic and international sales of medium, heavy, and intermediate commercial vehicles (MH&ICV), including both trucks and buses, reached 13,614 units, a marginal increase from 13,532 units sold in May 2024.
In the passenger vehicle segment, total sales, including domestic and international business, stood at 42,040 units, representing an 11% decline from 47,075 units sold a year ago. Domestic passenger vehicle sales, which include electric vehicles, were recorded at 41,557 units, down from 46,697 units. However, international business in this segment grew by 28%, reaching 483 units in May 2025.
Electric vehicle sales, covering both domestic and international markets, totaled 5,685 units, showing a slight year-on-year growth of 2% from 5,558 units in May 2024. These figures include sales from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, both subsidiaries of Tata Motors Limited.
