Suzuki Motor Corp has temporarily suspended bookings for the newly launched 5-door variant of the Jimny in Japan, citing unexpectedly high demand. Unveiled on January 30, the “made-in-India” Jimny five-door SUV has received an astounding 50,000 orders within just four days. With deliveries set to begin on April 3, Suzuki admitted that the number of orders “far exceeds” their sales projections.
The five-door Jimny has made a big debut in Japan and is currently being produced at Maruti Suzuki’s Haryana facility in India. The vehicle, which joins the Fronx as the second SUV manufactured in India to be shipped to the nation, is anticipated to strengthen Maruti Suzuki’s export strategy. This international off-road vehicle has already achieved success in South Africa, Australia, and Mexico.
Suzuki emphasized its commitment to the “Make-in-India for the world” initiative. Maruti Suzuki MD and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, expressed confidence that the Jimny would be well-received in Japan, given its strong legacy and growing popularity abroad.
Despite its relatively modest sales in India, where it has been offered with considerable discounts, the Jimny is seen as a niche product rather than a mass-market SUV. Suzuki has committed to quickly reopening its order books to meet the overwhelming demand, reinforcing the model’s global appeal.
