Stakeholders from the electric vehicle (EV) sector, including representatives from Tata, TVS, and Mercedes-Benz India, held discussions with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to address key issues surrounding the development of battery charging and swapping infrastructure, according to Economic Times.

According to Economic Times, officials from the Department of Heavy Industries and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) were also present during the meeting.

The deliberations reportedly focused on the strategic placement of swapping stations, charging infrastructure, and standardization of practices to enhance the EV ecosystem in India. An official stated to Economic Times that the interaction aimed at ironing out critical issues in line with India’s commitment to advancing the EV sector.

According to Economic Times, specific concerns were raised about the locations of charging and swapping stations, as well as compliance with infrastructure standards. These discussions are seen as vital steps toward creating a robust EV infrastructure network in the country.

To attract global EV manufacturers, the Indian government introduced an electric vehicle policy in March last year. Under this policy, duty concessions are being offered to companies willing to set up manufacturing units in India with a minimum investment of USD 500 million, showcasing the government’s intent to position India as a global hub for EV production.
