The highly awaited Skoda Kylaq, the Czech automaker’s first subcompact SUV, will officially begin deliveries on January 27, 202. The Kylaq, launched in November 2024, starts at an affordable price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), giving it a competitive alternative in the fast-growing sub-compact SUV sector of India.

As the third model in Skoda’s India 2.0 strategy, the Kylaq builds on the success of the Kushaq and Slavia, which helped Skoda establish a presence in the Indian passenger car market. Unlike its predecessors, which focused on Tier-1 cities, the Kylaq is expected to boost Skoda’s footprint in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, aided by an increasing dealership network.

A 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine that produces 114 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque powers the Skoda Kylaq. Depending on the versions, this engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The only transmission available for the basic Classic trim is a manual one. Since the Kylaq does not come with the 1.5-liter TSI engine choice as the Kushaq and Slavia do, it is more affordable for those on a tight budget.

The Kylaq’s feature-rich trims add to its appeal. Higher-end models include a 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the entry-level models have a 5-inch touchscreen and semi-digital cluster. The automated version of the top-spec Prestige model costs up to ₹14.40 lakh.
