Renault is gearing up to bring the all-new Duster to India next year, with the 4X4 variant already generating buzz overseas. The upcoming model will feature a unique mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain and a petrol-LPG bi-fuel option, setting it apart in the competitive SUV segment.
Recent spy shots from Motor.es in Spain reveal the Duster 4X4 test mules equipped with a 1.2-litre ECO-G engine, 48V MHEV technology, and advanced off-road capabilities. This engine, which produces 150hp, combines petrol-LPG technology for enhanced efficiency and versatility. It is paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electric motor on the rear axle, designed to improve traction on challenging terrain.

The innovative all-wheel-drive system operates similarly to the Jeep Avenger 4xe and ensures improved off-road performance. The same tech is expected to debut in Renault’s larger SUV, the Bigster.
Globally, the new Duster is offered with three powertrain options:
- A 100hp 1.0-litre bi-fuel three-cylinder engine.
- A 130hp 1.2-litre mild-hybrid system.
- A top-spec 140hp 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid engine.
The 4X4 variant’s hybrid setup adds a competitive edge, promising better fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness. The side-mounted exhaust spotted in test models may not make it to the production version, suggesting Renault’s focus on a polished design.
