Electric vehicle maker Ola Electric has announced a major price cut for its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh, marking a significant push to make long-range EVs more accessible in India.
The company has reduced the price of the 4680 Bharat Cell-powered Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh to ₹1,29,999 from ₹1,89,999, translating into a sharp ₹60,000 reduction. This move comes as Ola Electric benefits from improving economies of scale at its Gigafactory and deeper vertical integration in battery manufacturing.
The revised pricing, however, will be available only through limited-time purchase windows, signalling a shift away from continuous open sales. The first such window is scheduled for April 3 between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with future slots to be announced based on production availability.
The Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh has emerged as Ola Electric’s highest-performance electric motorcycle, offering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The company noted that demand for the model has far exceeded supply, especially during its #EndICEAge campaign, where interest reportedly surged more than five times.
According to the company, the price reduction has been made possible by the scaling up of its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell. As production volumes increase, manufacturing costs have declined significantly, allowing the company to pass on these benefits directly to customers.
Ola Electric is also accelerating the expansion of its Gigafactory, targeting a capacity of up to 6 GWh. This aligns with its broader strategy of building a robust domestic battery ecosystem and reducing reliance on imports, particularly crude oil.
The announcement follows a strong rebound in the company’s business performance. In March, Ola Electric reported over 150% month-on-month growth in registrations, reaching 10,117 units. Daily orders also crossed 1,000 units in the final week of the month, indicating a sharp recovery in demand momentum.
The company’s market share has shown a V-shaped recovery as well, supported by improvements in service operations and a better overall ownership experience.
