Ola Electric today announced that its indigenously developed and manufactured 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack (5.2 kWh) has received ARAI certification under the latest AIS-156 Amendment 4 standards issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

With this approval, Ola is set to launch its first vehicle powered by its homegrown cell technology — the S1 Pro+ (5.2 kWh). Until now, the company has relied on third-party battery cells for its scooters and motorcycles. The introduction of the 4680 Bharat Cell marks a major step toward complete vertical integration, enabling Ola to control key components of its EV ecosystem.

The new battery pack is expected to deliver improved range, better performance, enhanced safety, and stronger unit economics, while also reducing dependence on global supply chains. This development comes as Ola’s upcoming Gigafactory prepares to ramp up large-scale cell production in India.

The 4680 pack underwent one of the most stringent testing processes globally, clearing tests for water immersion, vibration durability, and thermal shock resistance, among others.
