Ahead of its launch on November 11, the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire has earned a prestigious five-star safety rating from Global NCAP, marking a significant achievement for the automaker. The Dzire is now the first model from Maruti Suzuki to score top marks in the crash tests, with a perfect rating for adult occupant protection and a near-perfect four-star score for child occupant safety.

Key safety features contributing to the Dzire’s stellar performance include six airbags as standard, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and a 360-degree camera. These features ensure enhanced protection in frontal and side impacts, pedestrian safety, and side pole impact protection.

The crash testing revealed that the ‘adult’ dummy used in the test had full protection, while the ‘child’ dummy had sufficient head and chest protection. The side-impact test revealed good protection for the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The side-pole impact test revealed that the head, abdomen and pelvis were well protected, whereas the chest was only marginally protected.

Global NCAP’s assessment revealed that the Dzire’s structure and footwell area were stable and capable of withstanding further impact, a major improvement over the previous generation. The earlier Dzire model received only a two-star safety rating, with weak protection in side-impact tests and a less robust safety feature set.
