Mercedes-Benz has a long-standing reputation for producing desirable wagons, and the newly unveiled E-Class Estate is set to continue that tradition. Unlike its predecessors, the W214 model boasts an athletic and sleek roofline, giving it a dynamic and captivating appearance. Scheduled for release in the European market this fall, the E-Class Estate offers an interior that is remarkably spacious, surpassing the previous model in terms of size. With an extended wheelbase of 2,961mm, an increase of 22mm, and a width expanded by 28mm to 1,880mm, there is ample legroom and elbow space for passengers. The height has grown by 1mm to 1,469mm, and the length has increased by 4mm to 4,949mm. Let’s delve into the details of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate.

While the focus may be on the sportier and more stylish appearance of the latest E-Class Estate, Mercedes-Benz ensures that practicality is not compromised. The extended wheelbase of 22mm contributes to noticeable improvements in rear legroom, providing a comfortable experience for passengers. The interior dimensions have seen marginal increases in every measurement, except for front shoulder room, which remains unchanged.

However, comparing the trunk sizes of the new and old wagons reveals a trade-off between aesthetics and cargo capacity. Although the new model’s trunk capacity slightly increases from 1,820-1,830 liters with the seats folded down, it decreases from 640-615 liters with the rear seats in place.

In Europe, Mercedes will introduce the E-Class Estate with several powertrain options. The E200 and E220d will be available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The gasoline variant is a mild-hybrid model, utilizing an electric motor that adds 23bhp and 205Nm of torque to the base output of 204bhp and 320Nm. The E220d diesel, also equipped with a 2.0-liter engine, benefits from the same 48V mild-hybrid system, delivering 197bhp of power and 440Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz has plans to introduce a six-cylinder diesel variant for those seeking more power. All models come equipped with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that has been upgraded for improved packaging and reduced weight.

Additionally, the E300e plug-in hybrid combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine with an electric motor, resulting in a total power output of 312bhp. The electric motor generates 129bhp and 440Nm, while the internal combustion engine contributes 204bhp and 320Nm. With a sprint time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 227km/h, the E300e is the quickest among the three powertrain options. Its 25.4kWh battery pack provides an electric range of up to 100 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. Mercedes-Benz has also revealed plans for the introduction of a diesel plug-in hybrid variant in the future. Furthermore, AMG models will be available, although it remains uncertain if the V8 engine will be offered.
