Mercedes-Benz launches new high-performance cars for sports enthusiasts

Mercedes-Benz India has said that it is on track to roll out its new cars this year. The company will launch ten new cars this year, out of which four are high-performance AMG cars. Two cars, the AMG C-63 Coupé and the GTR, are priced at Rs 1.33 crore and Rs 2,48 crore (ex-showroom India, except Kerala), respectively.

The company had launched fewer cars last year. There were only 6 cars launched last year of which only one was an AMG. Mercedes retails over a dozen AMG models- prices start at Rs 75 lakh for the C43 Coupe to Rs 3 crore for the fully-loaded AMG S63.

Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Martin Schwenk said, “The two cars (launched on Wednesday) represent high performance products designed for petrol-heads who love to drive fast and are into technology. Our decision of introducing these two products is aimed at expanding the top-of-the-pyramid performance segment, which has witnessed encouraging demand in 2019.”

According to the company’s annual report, “Growth here is likely to be driven primarily by China and other Asian markets, although the more established markets in Europe and the US will contribute to this growth as well. We plan to exploit this potential, in particular with our range of high-quality models such as the G-Class, as well as through our Mercedes-AMG, and Mercedes-Maybach sub-brands.”

Schwenk says the company sells 200 AMG cars a year in India, the highest coming from Delhi and Mumbai. Lately, Bangalore has emerged as a market for these cars and is now third after these two cities. Growth has also been prompted by the increase in performance car driving at Buddh International Circuit and the racing track in Chennai. Super car clubs have also grown in recent years like Cannonball Club, Throttle Club and more are coming up.
