Mercedes-Benz has introduced the much-awaited G 580 Edition One in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3 crore. This electric version of the iconic G-Class, also known as the Mercedes G 580 with EQ Technology, is set to be sold alongside the AMG G 63 facelift, priced at Rs 3.64 crore. Bookings for the G 580 opened in July 2024, and the model is already sold out until Q3 2025. The G 580 will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in Delhi next week.

Exterior Design and Features

The G 580 retains the signature boxy silhouette of the G-Class, with subtle changes for aerodynamics, including a raised hood, air curtains, and rear wheel-arch flares. It boasts a drag coefficient of 0.44, an improvement over the G 450d’s 0.48. The electric G-Class also features distinctive EQ badges and LED lights that outline the nose for a unique look.

Interior and Tech

Inside, the G 580 offers a premium experience with the MBUX multimedia system, consisting of twin 12.3-inch screens for the driver’s display and infotainment. The layout includes physical buttons for climate control and off-road cockpit functions, ensuring a seamless driving experience. The boot capacity is 555 liters, slightly reduced compared to its petrol and diesel counterparts.

Performance and Battery

The G 580 comes equipped with a 116kWh battery sourced from the EQS, offering a range of 473 km (WLTP cycle). It supports fast charging up to 200kW, with a 10-80% recharge in just 32 minutes. Powered by four motors and a two-speed gearbox, the G 580 delivers 587 hp and 1,164 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h.
