Maruti Suzuki recently announced that 6 new electric vehicles would be available by FY30-31, with the first model set to arrive soon. At the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, August 27, Chairman RC Bhargava discussed their strategy for achieving carbon neutrality targets in India. At the AGM, Maruti Suzuki also announced their intention to stick to low-cost compact automobiles, noting that the country cannot be restricted to huge, expensive vehicles.

Bhargava said that Maruti Suzuki is “reviewing how best to strengthen and accelerate the development of new technologies and products,” highlighting the company’s dedication to carbon neutrality.

With the technical assistance of Japan’s Suzuki, the Indian company is anticipated to continue developing EVs and launch their first electric vehicle at the January 17–2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle will be based on the eVX concept, which has been showcased both domestically and internationally many times. Even though the company is entering the EV race late, it has already said that it will release one model every year until 2031. It is anticipated that Maruti Suzuki will continue with its hybrid program, as Bhargava highlighted the significance of hybrid powertrains in reducing pollution and fuel consumption in comparison to engine-only versions.
