Maruti Suzuki India is gearing up for the much-awaited launch of the Jimny on June 5. This compact SUV will strengthen the country’s leading carmaker’s SUV portfolio, joining the likes of Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara, and will be available for sale at Maruti’s Nexa outlets.
During a recent media briefing, Shashank Srivastava, Maruti’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, announced that the price of the Jimny would be revealed on the day of the launch. Since the SUV started accepting bookings on January 12, it has already amassed an impressive 30,000 bookings.
Maruti aims to capture a 25% share of the SUV market in the fiscal year 2023-2024, targeting sales volume of approximately 475,000 units. The Jimny will be offered in the top two trims, namely Zeta and Alpha, with standard 4WD technology. As a result, the pricing is expected to be on the slightly higher side, ranging from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will feature the tried and tested K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering a maximum power of 105PS and a peak torque of 134Nm. Buyers will have the choice between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Built on a ladder frame chassis, the SUV boasts ALLGRIP PRO 4WD technology with a low-range transfer gear (4L mode) as a standard feature.
The primary competitor for the upcoming Jimny will be the immensely popular Mahindra Thar. Additionally, it is expected to face competition from the Force Gurkha in the rugged SUV segment.
On the exterior, the Jimny boasts LED headlamps with a washer, automatic headlamps, fog lamps, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs (Outside Rear-View Mirrors), and 15-inch alloy wheels. Standard features include a hard top, drip rails, a clamshell bonnet, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
Stepping inside the cabin, notable features include a 9-inch Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with a high-definition display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an Arkamys surround sound system, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
In terms of safety, the Jimny offers a comprehensive range of features, including six airbags, brake limited slip differential, electronic stability program, hill hold assist, hill descent control, a rearview camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).
The launch of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has generated significant anticipation among SUV enthusiasts in India. With its rugged design, off-road capabilities, and impressive features, the Jimny is poised to make a strong impact in the competitive SUV segment.
