Mahindra’s XUV400 is making waves in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market as the automaker’s only electric SUV, and it has recently achieved an impressive milestone—a five-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP).
The Mahindra XUV400 scored high marks across various safety tests, demonstrating the company’s commitment to providing secure, family-friendly EV options. Under Bharat NCAP’s rigorous evaluation, it achieved an outstanding 30.38 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection and 43 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, earning a full five-star rating in both categories.
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the XUV400 scored 14.38 out of 16 points. During this test, most of the driver and co-passenger body regions received “good” protection ratings, with only the driver’s chest and left leg receiving “adequate” protection ratings. Additionally, the side movable deformable barrier test results were even more impressive, as the Mahindra XUV400 scored a perfect 16 out of 16, with “good” protection across all body regions for passengers.
Child safety is a top priority for Mahindra, and the XUV400 proves it. In Bharat NCAP’s child occupant protection tests, it scored an impressive 24 out of 24 in the Dynamic score and a perfect 12 out of 12 in the CRS installation score. It also earned 7 out of 13 in the Vehicle Assessment score. For an 18-month-old child in a child seat, the XUV400 achieved full marks with 8 out of 8 in front impact and 4 out of 4 in side impact. Similarly, for a three-year-old child in the same setup, the SUV scored 8 out of 8 in front impact and 4 out of 4 in side impact.
