The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a revised electric vehicle (EV) policy aimed at accelerating the adoption of green mobility in the state. According to CNBC-TV18, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the new policy will offer bigger subsidies for passenger EVs and waive toll charges for certain EV categories, providing a major boost to consumers and manufacturers alike.
The move is part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to become a leading EV hub in India, with the state targeting substantial reductions in vehicular emissions and fossil fuel dependency. The cabinet’s decision, as reported by CNBC-TV18, comes at a time when global EV interest in India is gaining momentum.
In a parallel development, Elon Musk-led Tesla has taken a key step toward establishing a formal presence in India by leasing a 30-seater office space in Phoenix Market City’s co-working hub near Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. According to an Economic Times report, the office has been secured at a monthly rent of Rs 3 lakh.
Tesla’s move to open an office in Mumbai aligns with growing speculation around its future plans to launch EVs in the Indian market and possibly explore local manufacturing and supply chain partnerships.
The timing of Maharashtra’s progressive EV policy and Tesla’s entry signals a strong synergy that could accelerate EV infrastructure development, investment, and consumer adoption in one of India’s most industrially advanced states.
