The 990 RC R, KTM’s latest creation, has been revealed. The Austrian company has confirmed that, although it is still in the prototype stage, a production-ready model will be released the following year. This announcement comes after KTM’s exceptional success with the limited edition RC 8C. KTM indicated that the RC 8C’s popularity, with units selling out within minutes of release, opened the way for the company to go into the fully-fired market.
Although there aren’t many details yet, the 990 RC R prototype appears to be a solid machine built around a trellis frame. Despite the camouflage, obvious details like the aluminium sub-frame, blacked-out swingarm and Brembo brakes indicate the bike’s performance potential.
KTM said that the steel frame was designed for dynamic performance, with a higher weight lean toward the front end. The frame has a dedicated steering head angle of 25 degrees and offsets to improve steering response.
The 990 RC R is powered by a 990cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine derived from the renowned 990 Duke, which produces 126 horsepower. The engine is paired with a six-speed transmission with a standard quick-shifter.
Despite the feature details are few, it is likely that the 990 RC r would include several riding modes, traction control systems and IMU-related upgrades.
