A voluntary recall for the EV6 electric SUV has been announced by Kia India. 1,138 EVs manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023 are affected by the recall. Kia stated that the recall was caused by an issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which may have impacted the functioning of the car’s 12-volt auxiliary battery.

The company issued a global recall earlier this year in several regions, including India. The Kia EV6 arrives in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The issue is with the ICCU, which allows the vehicle to charge. Any damage to the devices will stop charging the 12-volt auxiliary battery, which would then discharge completely while driving, gradually reducing motor power. This will cause a complete loss of driving power.

To guarantee a flawless ownership experience, Kia stated that it is proactively upgrading the integrated charging control unit’s software on the EV6 cars that are impacted. .The company does not reveal whether consumers faced problems with the auxiliary battery being completely discharged.

Kia India added that it has notified the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) about the voluntary recall and would contact affected customers directly. Customers may also contact their Kia dealerships to make an appointment for the software update.
