In 2019, Hyundai Motors launched the Kona electric in India, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 25.30 lakhs.
The electric vehicle (EV) had been priced at Rs 23.84 lakhs (ex-showroom), however, the price was later reduced.
While Hyundai did reduce costs by more than Rs 2 lakh in the end, the arrival of smaller and less expensive e-SUVs, ranging from the Tata Nexon EV and MG ZS EV to the Mahindra XUV400, ensured that the EV was positioned higher and had even less market traction.
As per Autocar, the Kona Electric has been quietly removed from the company’s official website, meaning that it is no longer available in India. As of right now, Hyundai’s only electric car available in India is the IONIQ 5, which received good feedback.
According to reports, the vehicle’s age may have played a role in its discontinuation. It has been on the market for the last five years without any modifications. Another reason might be to provide space in the EV range for the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is now under development and is anticipated to be unveiled in showrooms by January 2025.
