Hyundai’s flagship midsize SUV, the Tucson, has achieved a significant milestone by earning a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash test assessment. This makes the Tucson the first Hyundai passenger vehicle to be evaluated under the new Indian safety standards, showcasing its commitment to safety and reliability for Indian roads.
The fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson, introduced in India in 2022, has significantly upgraded its safety credentials since receiving a 3-star rating in the Latin NCAP crash tests conducted the same year. Under the BNCAP evaluation, the Tucson excelled in adult occupant protection, scoring an impressive 30.84 out of 32 points.
In the frontal offset crash test, the Tucson scored 14.84 out of 16 points, with most areas, including the driver and front passenger’s body regions, rated as “good.” The driver’s chest and footwell area received an “adequate” rating, while the co-passenger’s footwell was deemed “good.”
The SUV also shined in the side impact test, achieving a flawless 16.00 out of 16 points, reflecting superior structural integrity and occupant protection.
The Tucson’s performance in child occupant protection is equally commendable, earning 41.00 out of 49 points and securing another 5-star rating in this category. The child restraint systems (CRS), positioned rear-facing for 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies, achieved a dynamic score of 24 out of 24 points.
While the vehicle assessment score was 5 out of 13, the CRS installation garnered a perfect 12 out of 12 points, reinforcing its child safety measures.
The crash tests were conducted on the Platinum and Signature variants, both equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an automatic transmission.
