With the increased demand and sales of CNG automobiles in India Hyundai looks to be seeking to take a larger part of the rapidly bulging pie. The South Korean automaker has registered trademarks for CNG-related technologies in India. According to IP India Services, Hyundai Motor India has registered new trademarks for ‘Hy-CNG’ and ‘Hy-CNG Duo’, implying that the manufacturer is probably developing dual-cylinder technology for its petrol-CNG bi-fuel vehicles.

Hyundai India presently offers the Grand i10 Nios hatchback, Aura compact sedan and Exter SUV as its three CNG-powered vehicles for sale in the nation. The carmaker may soon introduce dual-cylinder CNG versions of these vehicles in the nation, which will be sold under the Hy-CNG Duo badge, while the single-cylinder variants will be sold as Hy-CNG variants.

During the past several years, demand and sales of petrol-CNG bi-fuel cars have increased nationwide in the Indian passenger vehicle market for several reasons. While the high price of petrol and diesel is one main cause, the much cheaper total cost of ownership, lower emission and increasing pollution regulations for petrol and diesel cars are also propelling growth for the CNG propulsion technology.

CNG was previously used by commercial vehicle owners, but private vehicle owners have recently begun to focus more on it. This is why companies like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai are focusing on this technology.
