Honda Two Wheeler, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, announced its plans to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) in India in the fiscal year 2024-25.
While acknowledging the company’s delayed entry into the EV category, Honda Two Wheelers Director of Sales and Marketing Yogesh Mathur highlighted that the timing is in line with the market’s rising demand. The first EV, most likely an electric scooter, is expected to be unveiled during the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo.
Mathur added that Honda’s delay was a strategic decision, as the firm aimed to increase its presence in the 110 cc motorbike sector with the Honda Shine 100. However, Honda believes that now is the ideal moment to enter the market, since the market for electric two-wheelers has grown from 5% of the total market to 8%. By 2030, the company expects that electric vehicles will account for one-third of its domestic sales. While information about the electric scooter is limited, it is likely to have battery-swapping technology.
