Honda has announced plans to introduce three new models in India by 2026-27, focusing on hybrid and electric powertrains to tap into the rapidly growing SUV market. Currently, Honda’s India portfolio includes three models, with the newly launched third-generation Amaze being a compact sedan and the only SUV being the Elevate.
Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, emphasized that these upcoming models will help Honda strengthen its presence in the SUV segment, which now accounts for over 50% of the domestic passenger vehicle market. The SUV segment’s growth is a key driver for Honda’s future strategy in India.
The newly launched Amaze, starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), continues to compete with popular compact sedans like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Aura. It is available in both manual and automatic variants and comes equipped with Honda Sensing, the brand’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), making it the most affordable car in India with this advanced safety feature.
Honda’s growth in India is also evident in the continued success of the Amaze. Since its launch in 2013, Honda has sold 5.8 lakh units of the Amaze, and the company expects an increase in sales with the new generation model. Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India, believes that while the hatchback segment is declining, the demand for compact sedans remains strong, offering significant growth opportunities.
