Honda Cars India is set to make a significant move into the electric vehicle (EV) market with plans to introduce a fully electric model by 2026-27. As the Indian automotive industry braces for a wave of electric cars, Honda aims to carve out its own niche by launching a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) based on its Elevate SUV. Alongside this, the company will offer two other models featuring hybrid powertrains.

Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, emphasized that the decision to debut an electric vehicle first aligns with the anticipated introduction of CAFÉ 3 norms in 2027. “We will be introducing three models 2026-27. One is a battery-electric vehicle based on Elevate and two others. We can say those three models will be hybrid or battery-electric vehicles. As part of the global company’s policy, we are going to keep introducing and increasing the ratio of electrified vehicles,” he said.

The company’s move comes as automakers race to meet increasing consumer demand for green vehicles and stricter environmental regulations. Honda’s focus on electrified solutions will complement the growing trend of sustainable mobility in India.

By 2026-27, Honda is set to introduce three electrified models, signaling a significant commitment to India’s evolving automotive landscape. With its mix of electric and hybrid vehicles, Honda aims to cater to the diverse needs of Indian consumers while contributing to the shift towards greener, cleaner transportation.
