In August 2024, Citroen India introduced the Basalt SUV Coupe to the Indian market. The vehicle is one of the first vehicles in its class. Under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme, the vehicle in India has undergone safety testing (Bharat NCAP). Basalt received a four-star rating on the test. It should be mentioned that the car that was tested is a top-spec Turbo Max model. In particular, Basalt scored 35.90 out of 49 points for child occupant protection and 26.19 out of 32 for adult occupant protection.

With a frontal offset deformable barrier test score of 10.19 out of 16, the Citroen Basalt performed admirably. This test showed that the driver and front passenger’s heads and necks were protected at a “good” level. However, the front passenger had “adequate” protection for the chest and “marginal” protection for the thighs, while the driver’s chest and thighs were only “marginally” protected. In the side moveable deformable barrier test, the new Citroen Basalt received a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points.

With the use of child restraint systems for both an 18-month-old child and a three-year-old child, the Basalt scored 19.90 points out of 24 in the Dynamic score.
