BYD showcased its flagship luxury SUV, the Yangwang U8, at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, marking its first appearance in India. Part of BYD’s premium Yangwang brand, alongside the U9 supercar, the U8 brings cutting-edge technology and impressive features to the Indian market.

The U8’s design boasts bold, boxy proportions with squared wheel arches, flush door handles, and a distinctive tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Notable design highlights include the inverted C-shaped front light clusters, seamlessly blending into the grille, and roof-mounted sensors for advanced driver assistance systems.
Inside, the Yangwang U8 offers a tech-forward and luxurious cabin. A large 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen takes center stage on the dashboard, complemented by dual 23.6-inch screens for the driver and co-driver. Rear seat passengers also enjoy individual displays, and the fold-down central armrest features a tablet. Nappa leather upholstery, a 22-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and three 50 kW fast-charging wireless pads enhance comfort and convenience.
The U8’s real standout feature is its e4 platform-based powertrain. It combines a petrol engine used as a generator with electric motors at each wheel, delivering over 1100 bhp and an astonishing 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds. The SUV also features tank-turn capabilities and a quick emergency stop from 100 km/h in just 40 meters.
Another unique feature is its emergency flotation mode, allowing the U8 to stay afloat for up to 30 minutes and drive at 3 km/h to escape tricky water situations.
