The BYD Xia, a luxury MPV, was introduced by Chinese electric car maker Build Your Dreams (BYD) at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show. The Xia, which has a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain and is well over five meters in length, is aimed directly at the Lexus LM MPV or perhaps the Toyota Vellfire.
The Xia MPV’s appearance matches other vehicles in BYD’s portfolio while keeping to the company’s existing design language. The brand’s logo sits above a large trapezoidal grille that dominates the front end and is flanked by sleek LED headlights. It has a roof spoiler, rear sliding doors and a flat roofline. It sports a single, full-width LED taillight on the back.
The company’s 5th-generation DM hybrid powertrain powers the BYD Xia. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine providing 152 bhp and an electric motor delivering 264 bhp. Although not officially announced, the Xia is likely to have a 200 km all-electric range powered by a huge Blade battery.
This year, the Xia is expected to make its debut in the Chinese market, with a starting price of 300,000 yuan (approximately Rs 35.46 lakh).
