BMW introduced its next-generation iDrive system, now called Panoramic Drive at CES 2025, which will be featured in all new-gen BMW cars later this year. Powered by the brand’s new Operating System X, this system serves as the intelligence hub behind the advanced display and operating features.

The Panoramic iDrive consists of four main elements: a Panoramic Vision display, a 3D head-up display (HUD), a new central touchscreen, and a multifunction steering wheel. The Panoramic Vision system projects vital information directly at the driver’s eye level, stretching across the width of the dashboard. The 3D HUD offers navigation and automated driving system information, sitting atop the Panoramic Vision display.

The new central touchscreen boasts an angular design and matrix backlight technology, making it user-friendly with swipe gestures to transfer information to the Panoramic Vision display. Additionally, the redesigned multifunction steering wheel features vertical spokes with haptic feedback, integrated controls for ADAS functions, and in-car controls.

BMW’s new OS X ensures greater customizability, enhanced user experience, and a more comprehensive language suit for the virtual assistant. The system will debut in BMW’s Neue Klasse models, including a new SUV in 2025 and a 3 Series replacement in 2026.
