In a sudden turn of events, BMW Motorrad is facing a lot of criticism for the flaws that have been appearing on the newly announced all-new R 1300 GS.

A motorbike that has held the title for being an incredibly qualified and robust vehicle is experiencing problems that have owners worried. Following the first recall due to the Vario Side Case latch failing and allowing the cases to come loose while riding, the company provided an improvised emergency solution of getting the cases with tension straps as a temporary solution until replacement cases were available.

As if that weren’t enough, a new problem affecting the starter relay has emerged. A few R 1300 GS owners have given information that the motorbike often stalls and that the problem is with the starter relay, which turns on by itself, spinning the starter motor and at times resulting in a fire.

The bike manufacturer is now encouraging customers to bring their bikes to the service centre to have the modern semiconductor start relay replaced with an electro-mechanical relay, which has been tried and tested. As of now, the recall has affected around 25,000 R 1300 GS models that were manufactured before March 18, 2024.
